Hi, I'm Sooyeon
I'm a Korean teacher and a lifelong language learner who knows exactly what it feels like to start from zero — and what it takes to grow into confidence.
My Story
I wasn't always a language teacher.
I was a kid from Busan, South Korea, who spoke only Korean — until my family moved to Canada and I had to learn English from absolute zero.
Suddenly, I was starting life all over again.
On my first day of school, I watched everyone around me talk, laugh, and connect while I sat quietly, unable to join in. Homework felt impossible. Making friends felt even harder.
It was isolating and terrifying — but I had no choice. So I stayed up late with my textbooks, practiced speaking alone in my room, and slowly worked my way through.
Eventually, I became fluent. And everything changed.

Eventually, I became fluent. And everything changed.
I started thriving in school. I felt confident at work. I could finally show people who I really was. That confidence opened doors I never imagined — including working as an architect in Tokyo, Amsterdam, New York, Toronto, and Seoul.
Along the way, I realized something important:
Learning a language doesn’t just give you communication skills. It gives you access to a new version of yourself — someone braver, more capable, and more connected to the world.
So I decided to do it again.
I taught myself Japanese from scratch — this time by choice, not necessity. And because I'd already gone through the beginner struggle once, I knew what to focus on, what to skip, and how to stay motivated when progress felt slow.
Each time I learned a language, I discovered a new version of myself — and I knew I had to help others experience that same breakthrough.
What I Believe
Here's what I learned from walking this path multiple times:
The difference between struggling and succeeding isn't talent. It's having the right system — and the right guide.
That's what RedKim Korean gives you: a clear, structured path designed by someone who's been exactly where you are and knows how to guide you from confusion to confidence.
